This list is a guide for shop owners, not tax advice. Rates and codes change, and the right code depends on the exact item. Confirm each one with your CA before you print it on a bill.
How many digits to print
The usual rule: if your turnover in the last financial year was up to ₹5 crore, print the HSN with 4 digits. Above ₹5 crore, print 6 digits. The table above gives the 4-digit heading. Your CA can give you the 6-digit or 8-digit code for each item if you need it.
Three mistakes we see on hardware bills
- One code for the whole shop. 8302 covers door and furniture fittings. It does not cover locks, screws or tools.
- Material instead of use. A brass hinge and a steel hinge are both hinges: 8302. The code follows what the item is, not only what it is made of.
- No HSN on labour or fitting charges. Services have their own SAC codes. Ask your CA which one applies to you.
How KC Billing handles HSN
Each item in your list carries its HSN and GST rate. When you type the model code, both fill in on the bill. The bill prints the HSN on every line and an HSN-wise tax summary at the bottom, which is what your CA needs for the return.
